Carmen Electra Happy to Work the Engagement Pole
If you pushed the snooze button instead of listening to Ryan Seacrest's morning show on KIIS-FM, then you probably don't know that marriage engagements are like stripper poles and that Carmen Electra doesn’t much care for paperwork. (Like they say, the early bird catches the, um, writhing, squirmy bit of information.)
While we had already told you that Carmen is in no rush to marry fiancé Rob Patterson, we didn’t know that her hesitation was due not to the fact that she'd been married twice before but to an aversion to filing.
Confused? Here's how Carm tells it...
Uma Ready for New Groom-a
It looks like the Bride will be giving the altar another shot.
Uma Thurman has gotten engaged to her Swiss financier beau, Arpad "Arki" Busson, her rep confirmed to the New York Daily News.
Supermodel Adriana Lima Engaged!
Sorry, guys. Your favorite virgin supermodel is off the market.
Victoria's Secret catwalker Adriana Lima has officially gotten engaged to NBA hoops man Marko Jaric, starting shooting guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves, his rep confirms.
Jaric, 29, popped the question on the voluptuous brunette beauty's 27th birthday Thursday and presented her with a ring. The couple have been dating for about nine months.
Speidi Announces Reengagement, Snags Another Us Weekly Cover
With all of the staged photo ops and fake feuds, even Speidi must have a hard time keeping track of their relationship status.
But in the latest publicity stunt, Heidi Montag says she is "ready to marry Spencer," or—as she calls her bleached-blonde counterpart—"my soulmate."
According to Us Weekly, the flame was relit (or just reenacted for the cameras) on a not-so-secret getaway to Mexico.
"Heidi read me biblical passages like 'Honor thy wife,' " says Spencer of the make-or-break vacation. How very, um, romantic?
How long now until Heidi breaks down and reveals to Us yet again that they're not actually getting married after all? And if they have to be fake, can't they at least be a little less predictable?
Bombshell Kim Drops, and Undrops, a Bombshell
Sure he's fast, but NFL star Reggie Bush had a little trouble keeping up with girlfriend (and Keeping Up With the Kardashians star) Kim Kardashian's sense of humor in an interview with People. Asked about a ring she was wearing, Kardashian told the mag, "I'm about two months' pregnant right now and we're getting married on Aug. 8 of 2008."
People noted that Bush appeared stricken until she added, "It's a joke."
Good one, Kim. Giving Reggie a heart attack is perfect cardio preparation for NFL training camp, which is just about to begin.
Star Trek Star Boldly Goes Where Ellen Goes
George Takei is going ring shopping.
The Star Trek helmsman and his partner of 21 years, Brad Altman, are engaged to be married.
"This is something we've been passionately committed to, so, no, there's no cold feet," Takei told E! News today.
Altman proposed last Thursday, shortly after the California Supreme Court struck down a state law banning same-sex unions.
"I was planning on asking Brad, but he got down on one knee, and, of course, I said, yes," Takei said. "I told Brad, 'You beat me to it.' "
Ashlee and Pete's "Flash" of Greatness?
The betrothed couple blabbered about their beginnings on L.A. radio station STAR 98.7 FM this morning, with Wentz complaining that Ashlee kept him “in the friend zone” for a full year.
Ashlee so completely didn’t notice Pete that, after they had already met, he had to email her a photo of him to jog her memory. (Guess she wasn’t a Fall Out Boy fan back then.)
But things apparently took off quickly after that: “The first time we hung out she flashed me,” Pete says.
“I lifted my dress over my head for him,” Ashlee says. “So it was love at first sight.”
And we bet he’s been wearing her panties ever since.
Kate 'n' Owen: No Engagement Here
The British tabs are barking: Owen Wilson has popped the question to Kate Hudson and sealed the deal with a mongo diamond ring.
But reps for both stars insist otherwise.
"Not true!" Wilson's publicist tells me. Adds Hudson's rep, "She is definitely not engaged."
As for Ms. Most Beautiful's mystery bling, the true story is revealed in my videoblog above.
Breaking News
Scarlett & Ryan Engaged!
Ryan Reynolds has more than Scarlett fever—he has a Scarlett fiancée.
Reps for both Scarlett Johansson and Reynolds confirm to E! News that the blond bombshell and her actor beau are engaged.
No further details, including when the question was popped, the size of her rock or whether they've set a wedding date, have been announced.
However, a source close to Johansson tells E! News that the couple have actually been betrothed "for a little while," and they have kept the engagement on the down-low because "they want to keep things private."
Mariah Sporting Major Rock (and It's New)
We might not know if Mariah Carey is a missus at the moment, but she is definitely flashing some major new hardware on her ring finger courtesy of Nick Cannon.
A rep for the jeweler Jacob & Co. tells E! News that Cannon forked over $2.5 million for the 17-carat sparkler currently adorning Carey's paw.
“It has a square, emerald-cut fancy light-pink diamond as the center stone that is 10 carats,” the jewelrymaker says. "It is surrounded by 58 pink diamonds, with two half-moon diamonds on each side."
The ring was specially designed for Carat, er, Carey by company namesake Jacob Arabo and is not the same ring that Cannon used when he proposed to Victoria's Secret model Selita Ebanks, the source says.
“Both rings were by Jacob & Co., but this ring for Mariah was custom made by Jacob...I can say definitively that this is a completely different ring. They look a little similar, but this [Mariah’s ring] is a one-of-a-kind piece that Cannon worked with Jacob to create."
The source says that Cannon "was in the boutique in the last couple of weeks" to retrieve the bauble.
Now all we have to do is figure out whether Cannon—or the rock-studded ring—is Carey's new best friend.
Update
Mariah Wedding Rumor Steals Spotlight
Mimi sure knows how to make headlines—and not just of the musical variety.
After several days of speculation that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon may have become engaged, it now seems the two may have gotten married.
Call us cynical (or awed by her marketing savvy), but the potential nuptial news just happens to hit the same week that pop chart rival, Madonna, has a new album in stores. Talk about perfect timing.
Word of the wedding comes from Latina.com, where an unnamed source confirms the couple swapped vows on Wednesday in a "very impulsive" small ceremony reportedly attended by just a few close friends, including Da Brat.
A subsequent report from the New York Post pinpoints the location as the home Carey just bought in Eleuthera, the Bahamas. (Her casa is his casa, however, as a Post source claims there was no prenup. "There wasn't time.")
If so—and we're keeping the champagne corked until we get an official confirmation—it would be the second marriage for Mimi (who was previously wed to Tommy Mottola) and the first for Nick (who was engaged to Selita Ebanks last year).
And one of the cleverest spotlight-stealing campaigns since Madonna recently bragged to the world that she pulled Justin Timberlake's pants down to deliver a B-12 shot.
